How the new sailing works
From November 2026 the Islander sails a triangle:
- Portsmouth to Guernsey;
- Guernsey to Cherbourg;
- Cherbourg back to Portsmouth.
So the crossing from Guernsey to Cherbourg is one leg of the Islander’s round trip. Coming back from Cherbourg, the Islander goes to Portsmouth, not Guernsey, so check how you’ll return before you book. St Malo has sailings back to Guernsey for most of the year.
Book early for Easter and the summer holidays, when Brittany Ferries says demand is high.
The Islander
The Islander carries up to 400 passengers. On board:
- en-suite cabins with 1 to 4 berths, including superior cabins with a large window and pet-friendly cabins;
- the Horizon Lounge, with sea views and high-speed Wi-Fi, and Club lounge seats;
- the Courtyard Brasserie and the Cove wine bar;
- the Adore Duty-Free shop and a children’s TV lounge.
See our Islander ship guide, with her live position.
Check-in, passports and pets
- Check-in at Guernsey: the Condor Ferries route page says it closes 90 minutes before departure with a car and 60 minutes on foot. Brittany Ferries’ general Guernsey port guide gives shorter times, so go by your booking.
- Passports: bring yours; you’re travelling into France and the EU.
- Staying on board to Portsmouth: Brittany Ferries notes that the Guernsey to Portsmouth sailing via Cherbourg leaves the Common Travel Area, so UK re-entry requirements apply. Direct Guernsey to Portsmouth sailings aren’t affected.
- Pets: the Islander has pet-friendly cabins for up to 2 pets. Pets staying on board through Cherbourg between Guernsey and Portsmouth don’t need extra documents. If your pet is getting off in France, it needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate.
Guernsey ferry port
- Address: ferry terminal, White Rock, St Peter Port, Guernsey GY1 2LL, about 5 minutes’ walk from the town centre.
- Parking: short and long stay car parks nearby; you need a Guernsey parking clock, and long stay is limited to 10 hours.
- Facilities: a café, a shop, Wi-Fi, baby changing, left luggage and accessible toilets.
See our Guernsey ferry port guide.
Cherbourg ferry port
The Islander arrives at Cherbourg’s ferry terminal on Quai de Normandie, 50100 Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, the same terminal as Brittany Ferries’ Portsmouth sailings. The terminal has a brasserie-style restaurant, tourist information, Wi-Fi and a cash machine. See our Cherbourg ferry port guide for parking, directions and check-in for the way home.
