The Armorique is the Brittany Ferries cruise ferry that was designed and built for the Plymouth to Roscoff route, and she sails most of its crossings. She carries up to 1,500 passengers and 470 cars, with 247 cabins, all en-suite and air-conditioned, and 336 reserved lounge seats.
Her name is the ancient name for the coastal north-west of France, meaning “the country which faces the sea”. Inside, the open-plan design and décor capture the light, colours and space of Brittany and its maritime heritage, with plenty of room to move around, inside and on deck, and a quiet zone.
Where the Armorique sails
The Armorique’s home is Plymouth to Roscoff, which she shares with the flagship Pont-Aven. In the 2027 timetable she sails:
- from Plymouth on Monday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and on Fridays both by day (08:30) and overnight;
- from Roscoff on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Plymouth to Roscoff doesn’t run in winter, and in winter 2026 to 2027 the Armorique covers other routes instead:
- Portsmouth to Caen: some sailings between 7 December 2026 and 7 March 2027;
- Portsmouth to St Malo: from 7 to 19 March 2027 from Portsmouth, and 8 to 20 March from St Malo;
- Portsmouth to Cherbourg: the Tuesday daytime sailing and Monday overnight return from November to early December 2026, and in February 2027.

Armorique restaurant, café and bar
Le Restaurant (deck 7)
The self-service restaurant is towards the front of the ship on deck 7, in a light, spacious dining area with panoramic views and tables for any group size. There are dishes from around the world and French favourites, including minute steaks cooked to order, a salad buffet, desserts, and wine and beer. The children’s soft play area is in the same space, so it works well for families.
Le Café (deck 6)
Next to the reserved seating lounge on deck 6, serving sandwiches, cakes, pastries and hot and cold drinks, with plenty of seating and TV screens.
Le Bar (deck 7)
The main lounge bar, just along from the restaurant, carries on the open-plan feel with more seating and a quiet zone. It serves French wines, cocktails and hot and cold drinks, with big screens for sport and news.
The Armorique doesn’t have an à la carte restaurant. Opening times change through the year, so check on board.
Cinemas and things to do on the Armorique
- Two cinemas on deck 6, showing recent films, including some for children. Tickets go on sale at the information desk 15 minutes after departure.
- Live entertainment in the main bar, adapted to who’s on board: interactive quizzes and games, and sets from the ship’s singers. Pick up the programme at the information desk.
- Pierre le Bear and children’s entertainers in the summer and autumn school holidays, with activities, magicians and competitions.
- A children’s playroom, and a video games area on deck 6 with an air hockey table.
- A reading lounge on deck 7 with comfortable chairs and panoramic sea views.
- Les Boutiques on deck 6: spirits, wine, tobacco, perfume and cosmetics, toys, souvenirs and more. Buy a case or two of wine and they’ll deliver it to your car for when you drive off. You can pay in euros or sterling, by cash or card.
- Wi-Fi with four options, and plenty of deck space for sea air.
- Baby changing on decks 6 and 7, and a baggage room on deck 6 that’s locked during the crossing and opens 20 to 30 minutes before arrival.
The Armorique also displays work by three artists: photographs by Philippe Plisson on the public decks and in some cabins, sculptures of Breton fishermen and bigoudènes by Alexander Goudie in some cabins, and paintings by Matthieu Dorval on decks 6 and 7.
Pets on the Armorique
Your pet can stay in your vehicle for the whole sailing, or with you in a pet-friendly cabin (4-berth outside, 4-berth inside or 2-berth inside). There are no kennels.
- Before you arrive: your pet needs an animal health certificate, and Brittany Ferries recommends exercising your dog before boarding. From 96 hours before departure you can use the free online pet travel pre-check.
- At check-in: your dog’s microchip is scanned and its documents checked. You’ll get a windscreen sticker so you’re parked in the right place on board; leave it on until you’ve left the arrival port.
- Muzzles: your dog must be muzzled whenever it’s outside your vehicle.
- On board: pets are allowed in pet-friendly cabins and the exercise areas, but not in other cabins or public areas, except registered assistance dogs.
- Pets in your vehicle: Brittany Ferries strongly recommends opening a window for ventilation and leaving water. The car deck can be warm when you park, but once at sea its temperature is regulated and checked. You can’t go to the car decks during the crossing unless a crew member is with you.
- Visits: on daytime sailings you can visit your pet with a badge from the information desk, where your passport or driving licence is held while you visit. It’s one person per vehicle, for up to 15 minutes, to check on your pet, which must stay in the car. Visits depend on the weather and the captain can refuse them. There are no visits on overnight sailings.
Accessibility on the Armorique
There are lifts to all decks, disabled toilets on decks 6 and 7, and wheelchair-accessible 2-berth outside cabins, designed for wheelchair users (book early, as numbers are limited). Brittany Ferries publishes an Armorique accessibility guide with deck plans. If you need special assistance, check in at least 60 minutes before departure.
Armorique history and specification
In August 2005 Brittany Ferries ordered a freight ship, the Cotentin, from Aker Finnyards (now STX Europe), with provisional plans for a second ship. That ship was confirmed in January 2006: a 1,500-passenger cruise ferry identical to the Cotentin up to deck 5, with an extra block of passenger spaces and cabins built above. It became the Armorique, the second Brittany Ferries ship with the name; the first, about a quarter of the size, sailed from 1976 to 1994.
The first steel was cut on 30 July 2007 at the Helsinki yard, and the €120 million ship was delivered in January 2009. She arrived in Plymouth for berthing trials on 26 January 2009 and made her maiden voyage from Plymouth to Roscoff on 10 February 2009.
